81 Top First Responder Discounts [Updated]

discounts for first responders

First responders risk their lives to protect society from criminals, disasters, and other ills that we face. In appreciation, and in recognition of the fact that many remain underpaid, many companies provide first responder discounts.

Some companies bestow significant discounts, saving first responders considerable money on purchases. Discounts may apply only to active first responders, while others apply to retired first responders as well. Occasionally, offers also extend to immediate family members of first responders.

To better navigate this post, feel free to use the table of contents below to jump to the section you’re most interested in.

Who Is A First Responder?

Law enforcement personnel and firefighters are first responders. First responders also include paramedics who work for fire departments. Some companies also include health care workers but nearly every business includes police officers and firefighters in their definition. Therefore, you should always consult their definition before making your purchase.

How Do First Responders Claim Discounts?

how to claim first responder dicsounts

Many companies require, for obvious reasons, verification of a person’s status as a first responder or retired first responder. Some verification services include ID.Me, SheerID, and VerifyPass. Some companies provide a registration process through their websites.

Other companies only allow discounts in-store where the first responder can provide valid proof of employment. These verification services may give discounts to military personnel, government employees, and students. The services aim to verify that anyone accessing the deals meets the company’s criteria for markdowns.

Some discounts require first responders to appear in uniform, although usually, a valid government works for in-person purchases.

What Discounts Do First Responders Get?

First responders receive a host of discounts. Typically, the deal takes the form of a percentage reduction over the advertised price. Some merchants offer first responders enhanced rewards or even products not available to the general public.

We will detail 74 first responder discounts, grouped by category, to allow you to search for them as needed. The links provided transport you directly to the discount page.

Before breaking down offers by category, we will discuss several popular merchants’ potential first responder discounts.

Do National Chains Offer First Responder Discounts?

first responder discounts at retailers

Many national chains leave the decision to offer a discount and any markdowns to the local stores. Therefore, McDonald’s, Burger King, Jiffy Lube, Chili’s, and many other franchised businesses have no nationally advertised policy.

You should check with the local store to determine the extent of any discount offered. Many of these businesses offer discounts to active law enforcement in uniform.

Does Chick-Fil-A Offer A First Responder Discount?

Most Chick-fil-a locations provide first responder discounts. However, Chick-fil-a allows each site to determine the extent and amount of the discount. To know how much of a reduction you receive on your 12 piece nuggets with fries, you need to inquire at each location.

Does Amazon Offer First Responder Discounts?

Amazon does not give a general first responder discount. We also did not find any discounts for first responders for Amazon Prime, the fee-based service providing access to free shipping and on-demand movies and tv shows.

Amazon does offer different promotions during the year. For instance, on Veteran’s Day last year, they offered a discount on Amazon Prime for military personnel, but no first responder discounts appeared.

Does Home Depot Offer First Responder Discounts?

On a nationwide level, Home Depot only offers active or retired military discounts. The chain allows stores to set policies for additional discounts.

ID.Me contains over 200 discount coupons for registered users. These discounts also appear to apply to nurses, military, government, and students (meaning a first responder’s family may have more than one way to qualify for discounts).

ID.Me requires registration to access the offers (signup link below).

Does Lowe’s Offer First Responder Discounts?

Lowe’s, like Home Depot, only provides discounts nationally to the military. Local stores may offer first responder discounts.

ID.Me shows approximately 20 offers but does not indicate which groups (responders, military, students) may access each offer. As these offers may change, you should check back for offers before going to Lowe’s or Home Depot.

Does Nike Offer First Responder Discounts?

Nike offers first responder discounts through SheerID. Nike requires verification of your first responder status each time you shop. Once SheerID verifies your current employment, it issues a single-use promo code. Once used, Nike requires a new promo code for your next purchase. You can request four codes every thirty days.

*The discount works on Nike.com, not in Nike stores.

Does Disney Offer First Responder Discounts?

Disney offers no standing discounts to first responders. However, they have several offers during certain times of the year, such as reduced hotel rates at Disney Springs in the summer (dates change every year) and other such hotel deals.
